Nowadays, credit card system is become popular for online transaction on the internet.  However, we do realize that most people in some countries has not familiar with that system.  Perhaps most of them only have debit cards that could not be processed in the credit card system.  In the other side, we may consider them as our potential customer of our internet business.  Therefore, we have to run another system of transaction in our website to capture such a market segment.

One old fashioned way but still a good way, I think, is running a transaction system enables direct bank transfer to your account.  Let’s see the scenario.  When people visit your website and choose some products, they will be directed to a shopping cart.  After they finalize the product selection and give their mailing information, they should know your bank account to which they have to send the payment for the purchase.  Next, they should transfer the payment (it could be via automatic teller machine, ATM) and then notify you via e-mail, phone, or web form.  After that you would check your bank account via internet banking and mail the product to the given address.

The information that should be appeared in the confirmation is the customer ID, customer name, address, phone, e-mail, target bank name and account (if you provide more than one bank account), and date and time of transfer.  It is also a good advantage if you suggest the customer to put a unique amount of money they have to transfer, e.g. $100.09 instead of $100.00.  It will be easier for you to identify where such a payment comes from.

I read in one successful business runing this kind of system, they were willing to mail their product (in certain condition, of course) before they received the money.  The purpose of this is to build consumer trust, since this is one of the keys of successful internet business.  Why trust? because you and your customer were not meet each other physically.  As a seller, you want to make sure that the buyers are willing to pay.  In the other side, they want to make sure that they would get the products they bought.
